Berry Sweet freebie hybrid card

I know that we all have those friends or neighbors who we don't thank enough for the kind things that they do, whether it's mowing the grass while they mow theirs, watching your kids while you run errands or maybe gave you some of their fresh garden grown produce - do you thank them and be done? Most times I do too and decided that I would make just a small thank you card for just those ocassions.

I used a 5 x 7 card and did some inking around the edges. I am the ink pad queen:) and use it for everytihng. This time around I used a black ink to give the edges a bit of a pop. You can do this as much or as little as you would like, play with it a bit and see what effect you like the most.

Then I cut out the printed page and cropped the pieces to fit the card. I like to make them bigger than the actual card so that the trimming can be done easily and not worry about printing and it's too small!

I added both layers and cut out the word art. I inked that piece as well to give it a little something extra and as an extra touch added some foam stickers to the bottom to give it some depth.

I also added a small little button to the word art which gives it that final finish.

Download the printout sheet and word art

So if you would like to see what else is available in the kit be sure to stop by my blog - I'll be giving away a portion a day all week long!!

Freebie Hybrid Card Idea using Happy Go Lucky

I wanted to do a little more with hybrid this week rather than just printing it out and putting it together. Hybrid means joining digital with anything - I suppose cutting and pasting is part of it but to me it really means to add additional embellishments to make it a truly handmade card.
The card size is 5x7:)

This is the digital version. pretty simple and no embellishing. I did add some drop shadows to the digital version but left that off of the actual card.

Download the card and the 8 1/2 x 11 cutout page HERE

This is the hybrid version. I added the ink around the edges using my ever trusty tea stain inking pad. I have a variety of colors but I think that the tea stain seems to go well with almost any colors.
Then I decided to do a bit of sewing. I love using stitches in my digital work but it looks SO much nicer when the thread is real and you can actually see the holes. I added a sticker that I had on hand and then went back and added a similar quote to the digital just to give a comparison.

The last touch was the addition of a few buttons. They were on clearance at a local shop and I scooped up as many of each color as I could. If you don't have these I am sure almost any buttons in a button stash would work, find coordinating colors and go from there.

You can really finish this off anyway that you want - that is the great thing about hybrid - it isn't done until you say it is!

I used this great new kit by Genia Beana Scraps which you can find at Scrapable

I don't do a lot of word art. I was inspired though by Phil Vassar (one of my favorite Country Singer/Song writers! "Just another day in paradise" is one of my favorite songs. Its been a rough time for all of us lately with the economy and just being adults!! LOL

So I wanted to remind myself how good my life really is. I am living my own private paradise, even if it's not perfect!

Thank you for reading!! I love to read your comments so please leave some love!

Firecracker Collab Freebie!!

Happy 4th of July everyone!! This is one of my favorite holidays and I was so happy that we were able to bring this great kit to you in time for all of those picnic and parade pictures that I am sure you are bound to have very soon!

Please use it and think about what a great country that we live in and for all of the things that we do have. I know times are tough for a lot of us but I always think of how much worse it could be...I don't know how I would fare in another country that didn't allow the freedoms that I have here or the rights that I am assured to have under the Constitution. I am quite proud to be an American and more than that we (Megan, Chanin, Val, Amy and myself, Belinda) would love to see what you can do with this kit and your holiday pictures.

Please email any layouts to girlsgonescrappy@yahoo.com we are always looking for additional talent!!

Hybrid Card Freebie

Hi ladies! I hope that you all had a great weekend - I know that I did:)
Today I have a hybrid card for you. As you probably recall me saying I like to make cards - I don't need a specific reason I just make them and as the need arises I check into my stash. Well I wanted to get a card for a friend who is having some home owner issues but when I looked in my card box there were NO friend cards!! I couldn't believe it - it has been some time since I replenished the box:)
So that brings me to todays card. It is just simply states "friend". This is good for any occasion really - just a small note to let them know that you are thinking about them.

Now I have had my share of homeownership issues - water tank, washer, roof, leaks, windows, bugs, floods...and if someone had just sent me a card to tell me to keep my chin up I would have been grateful. Think about that special someone who mught need a little "pick-me-up".

I used Distressed Ink in a tea stain color but you could use any stamp ink I would think. I have a TON of ink pads and they work perfectly for this effect. I simply run the edges of the card around the stamp pad - you can do as little or as much as you would like. I trimmed the inner portion of the card with the ink as well and I think it gives the card great depth. Try it!! Black inks work great on the edges of almost anything to just give them that little extra pop.

Actions for PSE Link

I have had such a crazy day. With my kids going to Grandmas I haven't had time to finish my freebie. I did want to share something really cool!

I love actions. I use them in CS4 but I know many of you have PSE. So I am going to link a
"HOW TO USE ACTIONS IN PSE". (click how to or atomic cupcake to go to website) I think that this will be very helpful to many of you.

Here is a link to Atomic Cupcake. They have a very informative how to on the different versions of PSE. They also have PSE actions as well as Freebie actions once a week!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Next week will be Color Adjusting!! :)

What would you like to see and FREEBIE!

Happy Thursday everyone. Only a few more days until Dad's big day. I don't know about you but I am still trying to figure out what to get the guy who has everything he wants. I was thinking a hammock but they are pretty expensive. Seems silly that rope on a pole would cost almost $200.00!! LOL Oh well maybe a massage ($30.00 sounds a little better).

So I was wondering if there are any techniques you would like me to explain or explore. I am going to start my instructional blogs again next week. I am curious though, I don't know what level anyone is on. I wonder if anyone reads this or just grabs the freebie. LOL! So if you have something you would like to learn or have a question about please let me know. Email designer@mistifaerydesigns.com or post a comment in the comment box.
I hope you have a beautiful, creative and inspired day!

Friends Forever Freebie Card

Hi all! I hope that you are having or have had a wonderful weekend!! I know the sun was shining here all weekend and it couldn't have come at a better time - all this rain has been giving me cabin fever!!

So for this weeks card I wanted to do something that I could just put into my card box for future use. The kit that I used is Cora's Best Friend, a kit by Snowflake Beach Designs which is available for purchase here at GDS.

For this card I did some of my own embelleshing using some ribbon that I bought at our local Dollar Tree - I LOVE the scrapbooking supplies that they offer and you can't touch the price at any of the other scrapbooking retailers. It's a simple and inexpensive way to spruce up a single layer image to make it look a bit more hand-made:)

I also used some of this 3-d foam to use to put under the flower to give it some additional depth. I dont' like my cards to look flat so I tend to use this foam on at least one portion or element on the card. As you can see I have long since run out of dots and am now using the remaining foam around the circles. I hate throwing anything away and this is definitely a good way to get the depth that you need without breaking the bank.

I have for download today the full 8 1/2 by 11 sheet with all of the elements already put on and ready to print and cut. You can use the ribbon that is included or use your own to give it that extra little touch.

The flower still looked a bit flat to me so I used my fingers to just roll the top edge to form a semi circle and just crumpled it a bit...I think it totally brings out the flower now!

Download it all here!

Hola!

Hey its Val. I'm just popping it to quickly put up the freebie I promised to have yesterday. I've been busy trying to get my father's day kit ready to put in my shop at Scrapable. PLUS I've been struck with migraines again. I've had a headache for most of the past 7 days. :( So my schedule has been all messed up having to work with and around these dang headaches.

Anyway, I'm not here to whine, but to post ANOTHER alpha that coordinates with our Birthday Bash collab, but you should be able to work this into many other designs, too.
I hope you like it.

I hope you all had a great weekend and it continues into the coming week. Check back soon for more freebies.

Hybrid Card Freebie!

I hope that you all had a great weekend!

I wanted to stick with the GirlsGoneScrappy birthday bash give away for this weeks hybrid card freebie. I know that I have a TON of parties to go to this summer, one in just a few weeks so I started to make a card and realized that it is for a little boy so I simply adjusted the hue/saturation and got the same card but in colors fit for a boy. You could also play with the color levels to get a different look, I like to play with them to see what color variations I can make, for instance if I am looking to match the card to a specific wrapping paper I can adjust the colors to get it to the perfect match...gotta love digital!!

The images are sized at 6 x 4 1/4 so it should be easy enough to fit most premade cards, if you need to you can always adjust the image size to fit on any card that you might have. And dont' be afraid to add a little personal touch with ribbon, paper flowers, brads or buttons. I know my friends always love to get hand made cards and for the price of a few basic elements you can send those same heart felt thoughts with that extra little touch:)
