Hybrid Monday Freebie Baby Card

Hello all! I hope that you are enjoying your Memorial Day weekend! Please take a moment to say thank you to those that have fought for our country and those that are in the thick of it currently. My sister dates a young man in the Marine Corp and my father is retired Army so I appreciate what they have done, along with all of their fellow soldiers.

So for the card freebie I thought it would be nice to do a baby card - it seems there are always new babies come the summer time so what a perfect time for a baby card!! This one is pretty basic and can be used for either a boy or a girl or even as a shower card!

Click here to download and enjoy:)

Come back next Monday for a card template that you can be used for any occasion!!

Freebie Hybrid Love Card

The card for today can be for any reason or for anyone...a pick-me up for someone who is down, a simple statement of love to a family member or perhaps just as a sweet sentiment to a friend.

The kit used is "We Are Family" by Chanin of Snowflake Beach Designs. You can find her kit here!

I chose to just make it a single jpeg image this time around so that you can add your own embellishments...make it your own this week!

Next week I will have a great little baby card for all of those summer time babies on the way...come back to check it out!

Sparkles for Saturday

I've got some glitter styles and sheets today to share with you all. For now I am offering these as CU/PU. I recently upgraded from Photoshop Elements 5 to Photoshop CS4. I was so excited when I learned how to turn my glitter sheets into layer styles. When I was figuring that out I discovered that CS4 (possibly some earlier versions of PS, too) has the ability to scale the glitter once it is applied to the shape you want made sparkly.

In case you haven't figured this cool little feature out for yourself I've got a couple of screen prints to show you.

When you have a shape open in Photoshop and have applied the glitter layer style to it

double click on the fx item that says "pattern overlay" and this little window pops up:

Then you just move the little slider to the right or the left to make the glitter on the image bigger or smaller. Here I've move it up to make the glitter pieces bigger.

You can use this to help make your glitter look more realistic on the pieces you are applying it to. Here I used some of Flerg's gorgeous glitter, but I've got a little pack of glitter that I designed to go with the Hot Hot Hot! kit for the Design Star Blog Train. Its a very summer pack.

Sheets
Styles

Thanks for stopping by. I'll be back on Wednesday with another freebie for you. Probably a template. Maybe a mini kit. It depends on what my creative ADD decides I need to do between now and then :)

I must apologize for the post not being finished. I worked on it until 1:00 a.m.. I fixed all the pictures and then blogger would not load. I was so tired I gave up. So I have now fixed it.

Enjoy and thank you for being patient!!

Techy Thursday, tips and tricks. Freebie too!

It's already Thursday again. This week went so quickly, as they usually do! I have been trying to pin down what I want to blog about today. The tricky thing is I don't know what level everyone is on. Some of you will be newbies, some comfortable, but by no means an expert and others of you will be able to teach me a thing or two. I don't claim to know it all. I am learning new things on my Photoshop everyday. That's what makes it fun right?!

So I had two options basics, or products.... I've decided to do both!

My favorite "gadget" of the week is (drum roll please)..............

My Western Digital Elite 500 GB portable Hard drive. I have a 1TB (terabyte or 1000 GB) desk top external Hard drive that is fabulous but not very portable! For all you Costo lovers out there this item has coupon for $20.00 off. That brings it down to $100 ( I paid $250 in 2008 for my 1TB so that is a fabulous deal!)

Here is the link so you can check it out. http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=525
TheAmazon rating is also 4.5 stars! :) Its small and comes with a case and a usb cord.
If you don't shop at Costco check out Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G8Z3E8/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&s=electronics it's $119.00, it comes in four colors and has reviews for you to read from other happy customers.

This is great for all the digi downloads and photos. I have a lot and they are all pretty big files. I can scrapbook in bed now that I have a portable HD(my husband is so pleased. LOL)

Okay now on to a technique that I love and use every time I do a Layout or design a kit.

step 1

Use any shape brush or element that you want really.

step 2 next use place what ever paper, color etc... on the top layer (highlighted in orange above)

step 3

next click the menu on the right of your layers palate (in CS it looks like a an arrow with lines next to it.)

OR you can click on the layer menu and select "create clipping mask" on a mac CS 4 the the shortcut is the "option, apple and G keys"

On PSE I believe it is "apple and G" for mac and I am assuming on a PC it would be "Cntrl and G". (if anyone know for sure please feel free to comment!)

step 4
Your layers palette will look like this with an arrow pointing down to the shape layer.

I decided to merge the layers "apple and E" Mac or for "PC Cntl E" (I belive)

step 5
Next I added a bevel Style and a white back round to the frame would pop a little more. You can move this layer to your Layout by dragging it to the layout you are working on.

That's it. Pretty cool! I love clipping masks. I can do sooooo much with them.

I hope you enjoyed my little techy tips for today.

I used this frame in my freebie Quick Page. The kit is our Chillaxin' Collab kit!!

Have a beautiful, creative and inspired day!

Manual Monday!!! Freebie Card Template

Here is this weeks hybrid card project. I know that a lot of times I want to send out a card but may not have the time to make one. What I like to do is make them in advance and use them as I need them...this makes it easy when you forget or just need a card in a hurry.

For this card I made a few extra pieces that I cut out and placed on top of the original with some foam tape to give it a more dimensional look. You can always add your own touch with ribbon, buttons or glitter!

Download the finished template here.

I used our very own Megan's "Little Critters" kit for this card. Make sure you download that while you are here!

Glitter Alpha...

I was informed of an error on a large portion of the files in the alpha pack. I just went through and re-saved everything and they should work. If you've downloaded already and have had a problem please re-download. I apologize. I have no idea how that happened.

The corrected alpha is here, but can be accessed from the original link, also.

Don't forget we want to know what kind of Challenges you guys like. We'll be offering special participation prizes for those who participate, so be sure to let us know what you want to see.

Sorry again for the problem with the alpha.

Techy Thurs: Scrapping and Color, FREEBIE QP too!

Happy Thursday!!

I don't know about you but I have so much going on in a day, I don't have time to really contemplate color schemes. I usually download what ever kit is close and adjust them accordingly.

Well now I have three cool tools. For the digi scrapper who wants help picking colors for that great picture, and for the designer who needs to come up with the perfect pallete for the new kit that needs to get done!

For the scrappers out there who look at pic and just can't choose the right scheme to go with it, here is a great tool to help!

You upload your picture and it gives you a choice of many colors. As you can see I picked the blue. I chose the "split comp" color wheel on the right. It gave me the four colors to work with. I think they go really well with my son's shirt so I would use those for that pic.

What if you have two pics you want to scrap with?! No problem. Upload both. You can choose what is the best match for both pics!

The colors I chose for these pics go with both pics and are neutral colors. I can tweek it a little so that it will all match!

Want a little more freedom?! I have the site for you

You pic the color (the blackish dot) and select which color combo you would like. For this one I wanted something BOLD! I picked the "Triad"

If you want to make them lighter, darker, more saturated click on the "Adjust Scheme" tab at the bottom of the page.

next Click the "Scheme info" tab and click the HTML+CSS to get the Generated image below.

The coolest thing about this generator is it gives you the color codes for PSE and PS CS. You just type in the code on the color picker and VOILA, the color you want!!

Now if you want someone else to do the thinking for you (which I do half the time, we have enough to figure out in a day right?! Just figuring out what to make for dinner seems like rocket science some days!!)

kuler.adobe.com/

This is a fabulous site! I love the color schemes. This one is Celtic. I am Irish (Irish American) and I love everything Celtic, so I chose this as my example :). These are beautiful colors that remind me of a stormy day on the beach. I could make a kit around that.

I hope that this has been helpful and you are feeling a little more inspired to experiment with color. It's only scary when you don't know what to do with it right?

Thanks for coming to our GGS Blog, we hope you come back soon!! We will have a new blog post every day of the week. Next Thursday I will have another "Techy Thursday Blog". I can't wait to see what I come up with! LOL! ;)

Check out our website (store coming soon) www.Girlsgonescrappy.com. We have a Gallery and Forum so please join and start posting!!!

Here is your freebie for today. I made a Quick Page from our "Chillaxin" Colab kit. (see links below)

And as a special treat here is the project for this weeks Manual Monday edition!
Here is a great little card I made using the Chillaxin kit.
I started out with an 8 1/2 x 11 document and then using the ruler I can adjust what papers or elements I want and the exact size. This cuts down on trimming once you start to put it together.
You can always add your own touches with ribbon or buttons but I wanted to keep it simple on this one.
Download the card elements here!
